The Digital Cloud Bytes Training Program

Building East Africa's next generation of cloud talent — one cohort at a time, in Tanga, Tanzania.

Why We Do This

In Tanzania, more than 800,000 young people enter the workforce each year. Less than a fifth find formal employment. Meanwhile, global demand for cloud talent grows faster than the industry can train new engineers — and most of that training happens in countries where it's already abundant.

We built Digital Cloud Bytes to close that gap. Cloud computing is one of the few industries where geography truly doesn't matter for the work itself, but where the opportunity to enter has historically been concentrated in places like Bangalore, Manila, or Eastern Europe. Tanzania has the talent. It just needs the training, the credentials, and the pipeline. That's what we build.

Who We Train

Our program is open to disadvantaged youth from Tanga and surrounding regions, with a particular focus on candidates who would not otherwise have access to formal IT training. We prioritize:

  • Young people from low-income households
  • Women (currently underrepresented in Tanzanian tech)
  • Candidates from rural communities
  • People with curiosity and persistence — cloud work rewards these more than any specific prior background
Prerequisites

No prior coding experience required. Basic English fluency and reliable digital literacy are the practical prerequisites. We provide everything else.

How the Program Works

  • 12–16 weeks of intensive training
  • AWS-aligned curriculum plus business communication, practical English, and digital literacy
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification — every graduate sits the exam
  • 4-week supervised placement on real client engagements with paid stipend
  • Stipends throughout for transport, food, and study materials
  • Outcomes tracked at 6 and 12 months post-graduation: certifications, placement rate, income lift

What Graduates Achieve

Cohort 1 Results
12 Students enrolled
10 Completed the program
8 AWS certifications earned
6 Placed in cloud roles

In our first cohort, 10 graduates completed 14 weeks of intensive AWS training. Eight earned their AWS Cloud Practitioner certification on the first attempt. Six are now generating income through cloud projects — two as full-time members of the Digital Cloud Bytes delivery team, and four through freelance and contract work with regional clients.

"Before the program, I had no way to enter the tech industry. I couldn't afford university and didn't know where to start. After 14 weeks at DCB, I earned my AWS Cloud Practitioner certification and was placed on a real client project within a month. Today I support my family through cloud work — something I never thought possible."

— Amina J., Cohort 1 Graduate, Tanga

"The training was intense but the support was incredible. The instructors didn't just teach us AWS — they taught us how to communicate with clients, manage our time, and think like professionals. I'm now working on my Solutions Architect certification."

— Joseph M., Cohort 1 Graduate, Tanga
